24 Apr Real Wedding: Lara and Johan
Many a groom I know of agonise for ages over unique ways to propose. Whether or not Johan spent many hours with his thinking cap on, I do not know. But he certainly came up with a novel approach: he gift-wrapped the engagement ring and secretly put it under the Christmas tree at Lara’s family home. When she opened this package from the unknown Santa on Christmas morning and found the ring, Johan popped the big question in front of the entire family.
These two young professionals knew they wanted a very modern setting for their wedding. Nestled amongst verdant vineyards and overlooking False Bay, the steel and glass structure of the venue at the Waterkloof Wine Estate outside Somerset-West, perfectly fits the bill. Lara chose an all-white colour scheme for the decor. Far from being cold or boring, the assortment of delicate white blooms arranged in a variety of plain white and clear glass vases, combined with tall, slender glass candlesticks, crystal glassware, transparent chairs and a cascade of fairy lights against a back wall, created a light, dreamy, ethereal feel. The only concession to colour was the coral pink for the bridesmaids dresses and their bouquets. This colour was repeated in the decor of the welcome area to introduce an element of fun.
