19 May Dentsa AGM & Summit
We love wedding planning but also enjoy organising corporate events when they come around. Last year, we had the privilege to organise the DENTASA AGM and Summit event when it was hosted in the Western Cape.
DENTASA is a voluntary association and advocacy group that promote the interests and needs of the dental technology industry of South Africa. Annually all members get together for the AGM and Summit. Through this event the DENTASA organisation offers their members and non-member the opportunity to attend various lectures and talks that allow them to earn Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points. (CPD is a way for exercise professionals to demonstrate that they continue to learn and develop throughout their careers, to keep their skills and knowledge up to date and are able to work safely, legally and effectively.) In addition, the event also provides a platform for suppliers and service providers from the dental trade to exhibit and reach their client base. It is, therefore, not surprising that they have strict criteria for finding a suitable venue to host this prestigious event.
As DENTASA is represented nationally the various branches get the opportunity to host this annual event. The Western Cape Branch got their chance in the winter of 2015. The committee members felt that they really wanted to treat their fellow associates to the best that the Cape and Western Cape could offer them. The prestigious Spier Estate was selected to host this event. It provided the perfect setting for the delegates to enjoy the feeling of visiting a wine farm and also offered a fantastic space for members of the trade to exhibit their latest products, machines and services.
The DENTASA AGM ad Summit is normally hosted over two days and is attended by roughly 350 to 450 delegates from the dental industry and trade. The first day is largely dedicated to lectures, but at the end of it, delegates are treated to an informal and relaxing cocktail event in the trade exhibition hall. This allows members from the industry and dental trade to mingle and talk in a more relaxed manner.
Day 1: REGISTRATION
DAY 1: COCKTAIL EVENT
The morning of day two is normally reserved for the last few lectures and is generally followed by the AGM meeting in the afternoon.
As many of the delegates often don’t see each other any other time of in the year other than at this event, it seems appropriate that the AGM and Summit end off with a farewell dinner. As the event was hosted on a wine farm we felt it was fitting to host a casual early evening dinner – a Burgers & Blends evening. Delegates got to play winemaker for a few hours and blend their very own version of one of Spier’s signature offerings, the Spier Creative Block 3. Of course, this got very competitive, not to mention scientific. After all the hard work delegates were treated to a delicious bun-and-patty creation courtesy of Spier’s on-site farm-to-table restaurant, Eight. The gourmet burger comprises an Angus-beef patty, gorgonzola cheese and pink peppercorn chutney.
Day 2: BURGER & BLENDS EVENT
The event was a big success and we are sure the delegates are looking forward to the next one.
