26 Sep Real Wedding: Elizabeth & Lee – Rockhaven, Elgin
A real winter wedding at Rockhaven. Elizabeth and Lee’s day felt rather enchanted with the misty backdrop of Rockhaven Estate and magical lighting within the venue.
Lee is British and Elizabeth is American. However, met each other in Cape Town through mutual friends. Elizabeth owns a very successful computer programming school in the Waterfront and Lee is a growth & optimisation specialist.
Our groom, Lee, was very involved in the development of the look and décor for this wedding of which the lighting was the most important element. (To be honest, our favourite element of the day!)
Elizabeth is Jewish and Lee has adopted some of the beliefs from the African culture. They wanted to make sure that they included traditions from both religions. Lee started the wedding ceremony with the gift of fire. The men from both families came together to carry over the fire from the tribe’s village which was used to ignite a single candle. This candle was then used to light all the candles at the ceremony and the reception. The wedding ceremony also included many Jewish traditions which the couple explained to all non-Jewish guests in the Order of Service Pamphlet.
The Rabi was also a family friend of Elizabeth and traveled all the way to South Africa to marry them. She was newly ordained and performed their wedding as her very first marriage blessing.
It was wonderful to be part of a Jewish wedding again. A beautiful family-oriented day filled with lots of love.
